Activities

In addition to subjects relating directly to advertising, the GWA is also increasingly active in economic, tax, social, employment market and educational matters. In these fields, communication agencies – most of which are small to medium-sized companies – have a need for a more intensive representation of their interests. The range of GWA activities is wide.

Standing

GWA stands for substance and prestige. Its members represent an annual advertising budget of over € 12,22 billion. GWA agencies account for 82 percent of the gross income of the relevant Germany advertising agencies (TOP 200 list). GWA, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, represents advertising and media agencies, with some 500 offices throughout Germany. GWA agencies employ more than 16,000 people.

Communication Quality

GWA denotes effective communication quality. GWA agencies demonstrate their performance in the GWA Yearbook and on the GWA Internet homepage (www.gwa.de). GWA "Effie" awards in gold, silver and bronze for campaigns of excellence in terms of effectiveness and creativity, highlight the significance of brand communication as a decisive marketing instrument.

Networking

The GWA does not stand alone. It is a member of the German Advertising Federation (ZAW), Bonn, and the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA), Brussels, and actively participates in the German Advertising Standards Authority (Deutscher Werberat) and other trade organisations. The Communication Industry Forum, founded in 1999, supplements this by bringing the associations of communication industry service providers into an impressive umbrella organisation of associations, for the common benefit. The advertising information campaign "Informationsaktion Werbung" uses the mass media to convey facts about advertising to the general public.

Close contact and exchange of information is also maintained with agency associations outside Europe, in particular the AAAA (American Association of Advertising Agencies) New York.
